Does a United States law exist that says a business must provide heating and air conditioning to employees?
In particular businesses such as department stores and grocery stores.

- the one that says if the business wants to make money selling it's product which it will only do by keeping it's employees cared for.
- yes, it's broadened to a comfortable atmosphere.
- There's no US law that says air conditioning and heating are explicitly required, but if the heat or cold was dangerous then they would likely react to a claim. 85-90F is probably not dangerous for light retail work.
- That would be a State issue and not federal. To my knowledge no such law exists. Although there may be laws regarding unfit working conditions and it's possible that a job indoors without heat could be considered such. No air conditioning is certainly not an issue. Think about people that work outside, the post carrier, trash collector, crossing guard, and so many others. If you don't like the job, get a different one. In retail it's more about the comfort of the customers than the employees. However, a comfortable, healthy work environment is valuable in keeping employees.
- not that I know of, but that would be possible grounds for a bad work conditions lawsuit. Besides, it's not really humane if you are biulding the place.
- If your standing in front of the opening and closing doors and it's like 10 -20 degrees outside, there may be only so much anyone can do depending on the weather. But, you might wanna try agencies like OSHA and see if they are any regulations about that.
