What temperature should the airflow out of my central air conditioning room vents be ?

The house thermostat is set at 75F but actual room temperature is 80F. The temperature of the air flow through the room vents is 70F - shouldn't it be lower than this? Freon is at the correct pressure, a coil has just been replaced and roof vents also replaced. I'm in Alabama with outside temperature around 90F and quite high humidity (and sitting near a room vent!).

  1. i couldn't give you an exact temperature but if your system is operating efficiently you should have a difference of approx. 17-20 degrees between the air blowing out of your supply air vents and your return air vent or vents {supplies push air out ,returns suck air in}
  2. I think the air flow should be 58 ypi need freon.
  3. As a ball park figure, the temperature of the air from the vents should be some where about 15 to 20 degrees colder that the room temperature. That is strictly ball park, there are many factors that will affect the actual outcome.
  4. The general rule of thumb is 15 to 20 degrees cooling coming of of the coils compared to the incoming temperature. So if you room is at 80 degrees, the air coming from the register should be about 60 to 65 degrees.
  5. as most have stated the input air should be 15-20 degrees more than the output air, sounds to me that you have a hole somewhere in the duct work or it has worked off the plenum a bit. another possibility is that the air speed on the blower is set to high.or not running at the correct speed.
  6. Sounds like to me that the unit outside isn't working at all. Check breakers or fuses that protect the outside unit first. Turn the t-stat down pretty low. The outside unit and the blower should come on together. If the outside unit is running, the air coming out should be hot, and the big copper line going into the unit should be cold and wet. If it isn't, check the refrigerant level. Hope this helps!!! Good luck!!
  7. sounds like you have a freon leak, so have the charge checked.there are many possibilities but try that first.since you had the a-coil replaced, check for leaks at the joints where it was brazed to the line set.
