what would cause a 1 year old rheem compressor to seize?
I replaced the compressor in the outdoor rheem AC unit last year. It worked fine all of last summer. This year, we had some deck work done during which a contractor moved my unit. After reconnecting, he claimed the compressor seized and he did a hard start, but predicted it would probably die soon because it was not properly installed by the previous installer. Is this believable or did he damage it during his deck work? How can I find out if I am being duped?

- He could be right, but irregardless you'll still have to have your AC tech that installed the compressor check it out. I would believe that you should have a warranty anyway. Most compressors nowadays are warranted for 5 yrs.
- The only thing I can think of, besides him moving it, check the return air duct work to make sure it hasn't collapsed. Usually an early sign would be some freezing on the inside Air Handler before The guy came around or maybe after. If not he probably screwed something up other than the return air duct.. Yeah should be under warranty.
- if he "moved the unit" he would have had to evacutae the freon, seal the system, move it, reseal the system, put it under vacuum to check for leaks and remove moisture, then refill. if none of these steps were done, the compressor is toast.
- you dont have a deck guy move an a/c unit its not hanyman work the guy above me is right but you should have 1 year warranty did you have burnout dryers installed you need them too
