What is best material and best way to hang heating/air conditioning ducts in attic of home?

Noticed that the air conditioning duct work has been torn, punctured by nails in attic. What is best materials/application to prevent this from happenning? Is 6 to 8' on center up to code for hangers? The ductwork is 4" to 8" plastic with wire inside. I have replaced a few with the new foil ducts and I want to ensure that things don't get torn up again.

1. Plastic strap , comes in a roll of 50 feet or more , strap it around your ducts , nail to truss, if any of the duct has small holes use the aluminum tape , not duct tape, duct tape will turn loose when it gets hot.
