If you knew about an air conditioning repair company in NJ that was cheap and reliable would you use them? Browns Heating & Cooling was the best experience for a NJ AC repair company I've ever had. How much should a BMW 328i air conditioning repair job cost? I have a '99 328i (4dr - e46 model) and I'm hearing a jackhammer-like sound when i turn on the AC. I think the compressor piston is about to completely die. The freon/coolant seems to work fine as I do get cool air, but am hesitant to run it for fear of causing further damage. What should a repair cost me? And if you live in the SF Bay Area, any repair shop suggestions?

She has just fans, which do virtually nothing in a brick house. She can't affoard to get her central A/C unit fixed. She and her pets are getting sick in the intense heat. How much should it cost to repair my central air conditioning unit? The a/c unit is 7 years old and is leaking freon. Last summer (2nd year I have lived in this condo) I had someone come out because it was blowing warm air instead of cold. He said it was leaking and added more freon. This year I have the same problem and a different company recommended repairing the leak (which is located where the pressure release valve connects to a copper tube right at the unit). They said if I continue to just fill up the freon then it will eventually burn out the motor (he compared it to running a car without oil). He is charging $480 for the whole job. Am I getting ripped off?

Air Conditioning Repair Help! Compressor Cycling? I have a 1995 Ford Contour SE V6. The Compressor cycles after turning it on for about 10 seconds. In the system, there is a cycling switch connected to the accumulator. There is no de-ice switch, however the compressor is not freezing up. It just started doing this last summer for no apparent reason. Any thoughts????
How much should air conditioning repair cost? I have 2 units for my home: One is 2.5 tons the other is 4 tons. The capacitor in my 2.5 ton unit went out. A friend of the family who works for an air conditioning company replaced the capacitor and recharged the unit. He charged me $200 and I gave him an extra 10 spot. How much more would I have paid for a regular air conditioning company to service it? Did I get off cheap? Edit: Thanks for the answers....I guess I got a great deal. What is really amazing is that I spent all the years busting my ass to become a Dr., and I can apparently make more money fixing air conditioning. Also, is it legal to mark up a capacitor 400%. Am I being scammed by Air Conditioning repair man? My central air conditioner was not cooling down fast enough. I live in a dry climate. I assumed it might have been a freon leak. The AC repair man said the freon was at adeqate levels but said my coils needed to be cleaned. He charged me $250 to clean a 3 ton outdoor compressor unit which he did on the spot. After an hour he left. My AC is working even slower now. I thought clearning the coils would improve performance but now its worse. Any ideas or suggestions
Air conditioning repair--broken off/on circuit.? This summer was so hot and I had AC problems all throughout. My house is a rental, so I had to call the property management to get serviced. At one point, I could not get it on at all--I switched all the levers (the left, for Fan and Auto, and the right, for Cool, Heat or Off) around trying to get the AC to come on, to no avail. The serviceman came over and said "Silly girl, you had it on fan" (apparently that was position that it was left on after I switched it on and off several times.) He told me that that was the reason the AC would not work--he fiddled around with it a little, and it came on. A few days later, I came home from work, and the AC was off again. It was almost 100 degrees in the house and I had my dogs inside--they met me at the door, almost faint from dehydration. I again tried to get the AC on, and nothing worked. Another serviceman said "The circuit is broken. Whether the Fan was on or off makes no difference." Nevertheless, my landlord is making me pay for the 1st.
In OK what are tenants rights regards to air condition repair and what temp is required? I live in a hud apartment and my air condition is out. I have small children and the office has stated that they are not required to fix the air until the outside temperatures reach a certain degrees. What can I do legally to force this repair. In Madison County Illinois what is the time frame to repair/replace air conditioning unit in a rental house? I am the Landlord so only reasonable people need to reply. The 1st time a/c went out a repair man was out in 10 minutes the 2nd time within 51/2 hours. I am trying to sell to sell my 91 Mercury Tracer. The air condition leaks. Can I repair it myself temporary? My mechanic charges me $160 every summer to keep the air conditioning running. He has indicated to me that the car can be sold for $1,000. The blue book value on the car is around $1,400. It has around 131,00 miles along with a couple of dents. It just passed the emmission inspection.There are no other problems with the car. Also, my investments into this car are that the tires are new, and it has a really nice stero system/speakers with an extended warrenty. What would be a reasonable price to sell this car?
Air conditioning repairs? My house has a Rudd Air conditioner installed in 1994 when the house was built. The contact points on the 24v relay at the unit are burnt. I sanded them as best I could but I really want to replace the part. It's a Honeywell R52426. Problem is that part # no longer exists. Grainger's has 2 in their catalog and both look a lot like the one I am replacing. Does anyone know if it makes a difference ? If I go with the most expenxive one, will that work for either application ? Kinda stumped here, so any help is appreciated. Thanks

How often do air conditioning units need to be charged with freon? We have been having terrible problems with our central air conditioning unit. Our house is about 8 years old and we have a zone system (separate heating and cooling thermostats for upstairs and downstairs). For the past 2 years the unit is not cooling the house properly (heating works fine). We had the dampers replaced 2 years ago and I know the dampers are fine. We have had several repair technicians look at the unit. They always recharge the unit with more Freon (3 times in 1 summer) after claiming to fix a leak. This past weekend again a repair person claimed that we had an internal leak in the unit. He said that he had plugged the leak and then he charged the unit with Freon. Not only did this not work (our house continued to get hotter from 73F to 85F while AC was running all day) the pipe coming from the unit outside our house was all frozen over with ice (all the way to where the insulation started). Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I want to see if there is a way to disable an air conditioning unit at my house? I have an irresponsible roommate who leaves the air conditioning in our house running when no one is home AND leaves the windows open. I have called a ton of companies and they must be really busy bc only one called me back and provided a quote - but it seems really high - $1,300. Can the rear air conditioning be eliminated in a Mercury Villager / Nissan Quest? The air conditioning in my 1993 Mercury Villager (same as a Nissan Quest) is not longer working because the A/C lines (which run under the car) have rotted and are leaking. Replacing these lines is a major expense -- not appropriate for a car this old. Is it practical to simply block off (plug) the send & return lines and have the front A/C continue to work? I've spend some time searching for an answer, but I can't manage to formulate the right search expression. Is there a more appropriate car repair forum for this kind of question?
