Round abouts estimate for furnace repair? How much will it cost for my furnace to be repaired? I am thinking that the blower motor died or perhaps maybe a broken belt (?) I realize that you and I don't have all of the required information, but I am looking for a round about estimate. Will it be $100, $500, $1000?... basically an order of magnitude answer.

How do I repair a furnace duct hole? I tried adding a humidifier to the duct attached to the furnace. I cut the hole too large and broke the humidifier. I've given up and just want to patch the hole. What's the best approach? The hole is approximately 9" x 9".

They removed and replaced an old thermostat. When I asked for it back they just schruged. I want it. I had asked for other of the older parts and they were adiment but agreed? In Michigan, I don't know about other states, auto parts must be returned.
Furnace repair man ripping me off? I woke up 6 days ago to no heat. Called furnace repairman who came out that afternoon & started switching out parts on the furnace. He said he ordered a module from another city & it would be in on Monday, this was friday. In the mean time he installed a module and something else to "keep you warm through the weekend" "will fix it properly on Monday" Less than 12 hours after his "quick fix" it quit. So Monday afternoon he is there working on the furnace " think i got it fixed, but i wired your blower to stay on all the time" WTF??? Then he tells me, "it wasnt the module, it was the gas valve/switch" I replaced it. I am thinking where is the module we ordered? His explanation for fan always on was 'its going to go bad and might quit working" well...to me, wouldnt it quit working quicker if you keep it running all the time? it cools the house faster & makes the furnace come on more. He takes my old module, leaves the one that he put on on friday, no charge for new one So now furnace is ON all the time, house is cold then hot then cold then hot, killing light bill and gas consumption and man gives me a bill for 260.00. I cancelled payment on the check and am sending him a certified letter filing a complaint and wanting it fixed properly....did i do right? Yes, the gas does come on and the ignitor does do its job and light the flame.
The furnace repair guy gave me the creeps yesterday! He asked if I had a husband or boyfriend, and was talking? about how some guys are just looking for a woman to "put out" and some want a woman who can cook. He asked if I had kids and said he wouldn't let his dates meet his kids because "kids are getting raped". He even sat down in a chair for a minute in the living room. Should I let the company know? I'm afraid if I do, well, he knows where I live. He might be OK, but wow, he really gave me the creeps.
The repair man said my furnace inducer motor is overamping, serious or not? During our annual fall check the HVAC repairman said that the inducer motor on our furnace is overamping and should be replaced. Is this serious or not? He didn't sound too eager and the furnace is less then 3 years old. Can anyone help? Thanks.

repair furnace ignition? My furnace is broken this morning, I just try to find out the steps I should use in order to trouble what went wrong. My furnace is from Trane XE700 model. Interesting enough is that I turned the furnace off from control panel in the morning and turn it on in the evening, it worked again. However, in some time I noticed that it will take time (few minutes ~ 20min) to have the furnace to work. But I don't know how to check that. I read somewhere from web that cold weather may contribute to the problem.

Lanlord evicted me when I asked her to repair furnace. Is that legal? I have lived in the same home for 3+ years. I owe some back rent and I sent the landlord a letter stating that I would pay the current rent and when I got my income tax refund I would pay the back rent in full. She sent me a letter back stating that she agreed with that. So one month ago I called her to tell her that the furnace quit working (this was on Jan 18, happened to be the coldest night so far this winter, it was only 9 degrees outside.) She never returned my call and a couple days later I got a certified letter from her stating that if the back rent wasn't paid in full by February 1st I was to be out. The 1st came and went and I still didn't have my refund. She did not bother to contact me for the rent money, serve me with a court ordered eviction, or fix my furnace. It has been one month since my furnace broke (note: I also have 2 children.) I bought a couple electric heaters but every time I plug them in they blow the fuses, I spent around $50 just on fuses for 3 days. I can no longer use the electric heaters, so I have been using my electric oven to heat our home. Today she finally called me and it was today that I was expecting to get my tax refund, and explained I would send her a money order for the full amount owed to her. She said no, and that she wants me to move out. In the 3 years I have lived here I have done all maintenance to property and fixed all minor repairs on my own and out of my own pocket and never once requested reimbursement for the repairs I made. I have had to call her on 3 occasions in the 3 years requesting repairs that I could not do on my own. The first call I got the same response as I did with the break down of the furnace, that if I pursued it I would be evicted. The only thing she did have repaired was a leaky water pipe that was costing me a fortune and causing damage to her building. We do not have a lease agreement and we live in Pennsylvania. Me and my children have been sick for the past 3 weeks (respiratory and sinus infections of some kind that won't seem to go away or even get better) and I am sure that it is because of the lack of heat in our home. It's usually between 48 - 52 degrees in here when we get up in the mornings. We have been forced to all sleep in the same bed just to keep warm. I just want to stay until school is out so I don't have to move my kids in the middle of the school year. Is there anything that I can do? Excuse me, but I am finacially responsible. And I do pay my bills and my rent. My child has a heart condition for which he had to have surgery for and I was forced to stay in hotel while he was in the hospital. That put me $300 behind on my rent. Because I could not come up with the additional $300 the next time the rent was due she added a $90 late fee. So then the following month I still did not have the additional $300 + $90, she added another $90. It wasn't even a full months rent that I was behind. So please don't act like you know me and say I don't pay my rent or bills on time. Everything else (with the exception of the $300 was paid on time) I did not just make phone calls. Most of our corespondance is through letters. I have kept copies of the letters I have written her and her responses in writting to those letters. I have it in writting that she would agree to wait until I got my income tax refund to be paid for the back rent and late fees she assessed. This landlord was not the original owner of this property. She bought this property after I had moved in. Until today she has never been inside of my home in the 3 years she has owned it. She didn't even come inside the property prior to purchasing it. Besides the $300 I was short the one time, I have been A-1 tenant. I maintained the lawn. Planted grass, flowers, and picked up after the hogs who live upstairs who feel it is ok to throw their trash all over the lawn. Ask anyone of my neighbors, I keep a good house, a well maintained yard, and I take good care of my children.
What does having a "smaller capacity nozzle" in my oil furnace mean? Tonight I had to have an after hours furnace repair. They replaced the nozzles in my oil furnace, but said the one they put in is smaller capacity then the one hey pulled out. What does this mean for me regarding how much oil I use and the comfort of the house?
My furnace keeps shutting down. Is it an electrical or HVAC problem? My thermostat goes completely blank and the only way to get it turned back on is to flip the breaker in the box. My fuel oil furnace has smoke bellowing out of a cracked between the fire tube and the crock. Can it be repair Should there be a gap between the fire tube and fire crock? It also does'nt want to fire if it's shut off or tempiture is turned down for a while. I have to hit the reset button in order to fire it up, that's when the smoke comes out of the inspection plate and exaust pipe. Should and can I get some stove cement and close the gap between the fire tube and crock?
My furnace repair man tried to rip me off - what should I do? I had an inducer motor go bad and I called a repair man. He came out and told me that an inducer motor and the installation would cost me $800. He apologized and told me that it was because the replacement part was so expensive. Something didn't sound right to me so I told him I would think about it. He charged me $50 for the service call. I bought the same part online for less than $80 and installed it myself in 15 minutes. I was happy that my furnance was fixed and that I didn't have to pay so much, but now I am angry that I paid $50 for the honor of them coming out and trying to rip me off. What should I do? Report them to Better Business Bureau? Do I have enough to charge them with fraud? Thanks!
What should I do about a Furnace repair? Furnace burners would not stay lit before bed last night so slept In the cold overnight. Have a service call scheduled for later today but woke up this morning and furnace fired up no problem and has been running flawlessly for hours now. Should I still have the service men come in or cancel? As most people with the economic times money Is scarce so i will have to pay them for even stepping foot In the house. What should I do? I actually forgot to mention that last night I did shut off the gas and the power opened up the furnace and did what little cleaning and brushing off I could do without taking things apart. But last night after I did this still nothing but this morning everything runs great.... Ok, I believe I found the flame sensor and I looks I bit coated with some sort of white residue. I also notice that he piece of metal It Is attached to feels a bit flimsy and I worry that when I try to detach it to clean I may bend something?
Forced Air (Central Unit) Furnace Repair Question? The heat does not kick on UNLESS I turn the unit off (at the thermostat) and turn it back on. I tried turning the fan from "AUTO" to the "ON" position but the air just blows out cool. Everytime I need heat, I must switch the heat to "OFF" and then back "ON" to obtain warm air. I already replaced the thermostat. Appox. 5 years old, Goodman, Model CACF036B2A.
My furnace runs the correct amount of time, turns off. Then turns on & off 2 more times shortly afterward? This just started happening 2 days ago. Is this dangerous? When would a circuit board need to be replaced on a furnace? I was told by an air conditioning repair man that I needed to replace the circuit/control board on our furnace because the blower for the cooling mode was not blowing. Also, the pipes which carry the freeon were freezing up. I'm curious, what would cause a circuit board to go out?

Electric furnace keeps burning up heating elements? I have an Electric furnace and it keeps going through heating elements like literaly day by day, the landlords get it fixed and the next day they are burnt out and not working, the furnace will just stop working, and the only way we can get it back on is by flipping the breaker like 10 times, but when it comes on it is hot air, the repair guy keeps saying its because of the heating elements breaking but its still hot. it has done this same thing for years and they keeping getting the elements replaced and they just keep burning up and nobody seems to know why, any suggestions would be great!

repair man needed badly? This is for anyone living in Michigan in macomb county or nearby. I need a furnace repair man badly. I live in a mobile home and have a gas furnace which for the past 2 weeks wont give me heat. I live on a very fixed income and hope to work something out. Right now all I have is a hundred or maybe 2 to spend but I would like a repair man to at least tell me what the problem could be. REPAIR COST ON GAS FURNACE.? I live in New York City in a single family house. I just had a heating problem and needed a quick repair on my Weil-McLaine gas furnace. The gas valve failed and had to be replaced (failed to open when voltage applied). A local licensed plumber did the repair (on a weekday at approx. 2:00 P.M.) and the charge was $535.00 + tax for a job that took approx. 45 minutes. Does this seem excessive? The invoice states: "Replace gas valve, thermocouple & pilot assembly on gas fired steam boiler". The gas valve replacement was a White-Rodgers mdl. # 36C03400. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oil Furnace boiler leaking water? Repair or replace? Hi and thanks to those who read and respond to my post. I think the oil furnace boiler is leaking water internally. I did my spring furnace clean, and found the soot in the bottom of the boiler inside was moist. Before, inside was VERY dry and easy to vacuum. Soot does not smell like fuel oil. The concrete pad around it and the water heater is damp, but not wet. (Gas Water heater just replaced and problem remained). There is also evidence of water in the flue pipe, with dried rust stains on outside of pipe. The furnace was very noisy this season at shutoff. Is this a leaking boiler, or could it be something else? Is is repairable, or time to replace? The hot water unit (Vaillant) is about 20 years old. The Igniter unit (Blue Angel) is about the same age. Thanks for your help
Can you replace a Daikan heat pump condensing outdoor unit with a furnace and AC unit? We have a 2 story rental house with a furnace upstairs but the basement is heated with a Daikan heat pump condensing outdoor unit that feeds 4 interior basement units. The repair company can't find a replacement compressor, so to get it fixed it would cost $12,000. We're trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to install a furnace/AC in the basement instead. Why is my furnace clicking when the furnace is off.? I need someone to fix the click coming from my furnace. It clicks but my thermos stat is not even on. It's set to the "off" position. How much $$ to look at it and repair it? I don't know where to look to fix this problem.
My furnace smells like fuel oil when it first comes on? When the oil furnace starts the warm up before heating the house, it has a strong fuel oil smell. The repair man came, did the usual thing, changed the filter, the nozzle and cleaned it up, but we can still smell oil as it starts the heat cycle. Once the fan starts, and when the cycle is over you can't smell oil anymore. It doesn't smell like smoke or anything burning; just raw fuel oil. The furnace is 15 years old and we have serviced it at the beginning of every winter.
How to repair a return air grill in the hallway? Recently I purchased a home that the only way to change the furnace filters was to change them directly from the furnace. However, there is a return air grill in the hallway but there is no place to put the filter. I thought it would take a 20x20x1 grill so I started cutting some of the sheet rock in order to replace the grill with one that I could actually place a filter in. Well to my surprise after cutting away some of the sheetrock the area should only be for for a 20x16 filter but now the the return air grill will not cover the area that I cut. How can I repair that to get it to work?? Do I need to purchase a piece of sheet rock and cut out an area to cover the hole and then recut to fit the grill??
How can I make my landlord fix my furnace? It has been broken for weeks along with many other things. He picked up his rent $ yesterday and fixed everything but the furnace. I have told him for weeks about this, and now it's bitter cold and I can't live with it. Banging noises after Keeprite Propane Furnace shuts off, what is it? After my furnace shuts off and for about 3\4 of an hour there is this clangy banging noice that happens every few seconds or so.
