Whats diffrence between Ruud and Rheem AC Units? I know Rheem makes Ruud but what difference, does any one really know? is it parts or quality of labor, which is better. Something has to obviosly be different, cant be identical prodict under different make name. one last thing, i read in a forum that both are the same and comes down the same assembly line, is this so and again, whats the difference. Thank you
what would cause a 1 year old rheem compressor to seize? I replaced the compressor in the outdoor rheem AC unit last year. It worked fine all of last summer. This year, we had some deck work done during which a contractor moved my unit. After reconnecting, he claimed the compressor seized and he did a hard start, but predicted it would probably die soon because it was not properly installed by the previous installer. Is this believable or did he damage it during his deck work? How can I find out if I am being duped?
How do you replace the compressor in AC unit? I have a 10 yr. Rheem AC unit and it appears that I have lost my compressor. (It tries to kick on, but makes a hissing and screeching noise, then clicks off--no cooling. In fact, the cooling coils get quite hot.) Worse, we're having a heat wave in CA and you can't get an HVAC contractor for at least a week. I've done a lot of remodeling work, even some minor electrical work--nothing that major, but I'm comfortable working with high voltage. Is replacing a compressor a possible DIY job? If so, any tips or websites that will help?
Rheem AC Heatstrip 10kw not working properly? System is a split with an Airhandler RBHK24 -J11SFB Model. I set the Unit to Heat this morning and there is hardly any warm Air coming out of the Vents! Any suggestions on how to improve the situation will be greatly appreciated! BTW: it is a 2005 Model. Thanks - Thomas
How do I set my central AC unit so that it recirculates only? I live in San Diego and have a young baby. I was told to keep the windows shut and run the AC on recirculate. I have been running the AC, but I don't know how to set it so that it does not draw in the outside air, and I think it's pulling air in from outside. So scared, not sure what to do. It's a Rheem central AC unit. Can anyone help me?
rheem heat pump/ac unit emergency heat light? why does my emergency heat light keep popping on .i get heat when i start the unit ,but afte a couple of seconds the light clicks on..i put new filter in..anyone know whats going on
Need help with buying a new central AC unit? I am fixing to buy either a 4 ton or a 5 ton AC unit from a friend. He has both available for sale for 500.00 a piece. With a leak from the inside coil unit in my current system, I need to start looking for a new one - and I can't pass it up at that price. I am fixing to go down to look at the units, but I have no idea what to look for. He says they are brand new in the box, but what are some things I need to know before I buy? My current system is a 20 year old carrier and the one I will buy is a Rheem. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.
ac not cooling on 18 yr Rheem heat pump. tech been twice worked coming back to check for leak. any advice? thk? tech came out added freeon - came home and found water in basement. different tech came out second time stayed 3 hrs. checking. We replaced orig. filter with home depot one for better air flow, he also added more freeon. AC ran fine for two weeks - today ac not working, icing over. tech said must be coolant leak, coming tomorrow to do a check. We had new evap coil and blower installed two yrs. ago. Wondering if we need to bite the bullet and install a complete new system. Appreciate any help!
AC/HP runs several seconds before the fan kicks on? My AC runs several seconds before the fan kicks on. Is this normal? I have a Rheem unit/ Split. The unit was just serviced and wasn't low in coolant, everything seemed okay. It doesn't freeze up. It kicks on and off sometimes within minutes though?? Please help! I never can pick a best answer. I sure appreciate everyones input though. Thank you ALL for helping!! You're great and the reason I love this group! :O)
HVAC-- Converting a R-22 AC over to new R-407 freon. Can it be done by changing out orifice in the M coil? I have a 9 yr old Rheem 3 1/2 ton Central Air. The "M" coil is leaking and needs to be replaced. Can I put in a new coil with a R-407 orifice and convert it over, while still using the same compressor? I would prefer a licensed HVAC tech answer, who has done it before. Thanks Debbie, thanks for the compliment. John, always good to hear from other trade people. I gave the best answer to Orak, since he had some info on the queston. I found out that the new freon is 410a instead of 407c. Carrier calls it Puron. I wanted to get an idea if I could get away wothout replacing the whole unit. The AC guys that I deal with, wanted to completely replace everything including the two lines that connect the compressor and condenser. I wanted to find out if they were jerking my chain. Finallly, thanks for all the answers and taking time out to say HI. I do appreciate it. The next time this happens with the AC, then I'll just change it out myself, and get a vacuum pump and evacuate the system, put in a whole new system with the new freon. Thanks again.
Rheem furnace - fan does not come on? Hi, I have dual heat/ac unit the fan does not come on for heat; however, the a/c works fine. I have replaced the Fan Cycle control and tested the relays which are fine. I gas heat engages just fine and the unit gets got but the fan does not engage. My fan cycle control has a manual switch to engage the fan and when press an internal fans does come on; however, the large fan blades outside do not engage. Also, when bypassing the delay by pressing manual override on one of the relays the large fan does engage. What should I do next - how do I get a service manual for the unit. The model and serial numbers are below. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year, Tom Model# RRGF-05E2-4JKR Serial# WNA-4110-A-HA-A-F1488-3456 Thanks you for the answers so far: 1. When I depress the manual switch on the FCC(fan cycle control) the internal fan turns on. 2. As mentioned the gas comes on and gets plenty of heat. 3. According to Spring Rooster the outside fan is only used with the a/c. Thank you Rooster that is very helpful... 4. I still have no heat inside - please help.
My AC unit needs replaced..what brand is good? I can choose from GE, Heil,Rheem, Payne, Trane, Gibson, Goodman, Honeywell, Frigidaire, Energy Right, Mitsubishi Electric. I want one that will last a long time with few problems...I dont care about the cost. The only brands I am familiar with are GE, Trane & Frigidaire. What do you like best and why? We have a gas unit and I was hoping to stay with it...
Better A/C equipment: Rheem or Carrier? Also is this estimate ok? I live in a three floor townhouse/condo, 1,396 sq/ft. It was built in 1982 and has the original a/c and furnace which is horribly inefficient and is breaking down. The first estimate I got was for $10,500 to replace the A/C blower and furnace but doing some research led me to believe that this was a horribly overpriced one so I got a second one and the results are below. The questions I have are as follows: Is there really a big difference in quality between Carrier and Rheem? Which is better? Is there room to haggle here? I'd like to go with option #2 but get that down to $6K. << Option 1: Rheem Equipment $5,990 System will consist of: Rheem 80%+ gas furnace with 2 stage gas valve MOD# RGPQ10EAMCR Rheem 13 seer, Condensing unit with Puron refrigerant MOD# RANL030JAZ Rheem evaporator coil MOD# RCFLHM3617 Honeywell Programmable thermostat MOD# PRO8000 Option 2: Carrier Equipment, 13 seer, $6,490 System will consist of: Carrier 80%+ gas furnace with 2 stage gas valve MOD# 58CTA090-1-14 Carrier 13 seer, Condensing unit with Puron refrigerant MOD# 24ACB330 Carrier evaporator coil MOD# CAPVU3017ACA Honeywell Programmable thermostat MOD# PRO8000 Option 3: Carrier Equipment, up to 15 seer, $6,990.00 System will consist of: Carrier 80%+ gas furnace with 2 stage gas valve MOD# 58CTA090-1-14 Carrier 15 seer, Condensing unit with Puron refrigerant MOD# 24APA530 Carrier evaporator coil MOD# CAPVU3017ACA Honeywell Programmable thermostat MOD# PRO8000 AC coil will mount on top of furnace and adapted to duct system. help! AC on the fritz!? Have a Rheem model RAKA-048JAZ air conditioner. The problem: The ac comes on fine (blower and condenser seem to be working, getting cold air). After 10 min, the circuit in the house trip and the condensor fan stops. Blower (which is part of the furnace) continues to blow. At the thermostat, if I turn the temp way up so everything should shut off (this is when the circuit to the condenser is tripped), the blower continues to blow. When I turn the thermostat off, the blower continues to blow. The only way I can turn the blower of is to disconnect the thermostat. OK...so I replaced the thermostat and the new one is doing the same thing. I cleaned the fins and coils on the compresser and cleaned out the electronics on the compressor. Still, it works for 10 minutes and then trips. Any ideas? Thanks.
AC problems, HELP !!? central heat pump, old (probably '80's) Rheem, only runs when HOLDING reset button in, stops when released. This also disables inside portion of unit (no blower). Also, can I bypass the reset botton?
What life does a new compressor have after it ceased and needed hard start? Our '08 rheem AC compressor was moved by a HVAC person as part of a large deck project. While trying to tip off refrigerant, the compressor "ceased". HVAC guy used a hard start capacitor, but predicted compressor would probably die soon because it was not properly installed by the previous installer. It was functional before and working for the time being. Is this believable or did he damage it during his deck work? How much life do I have left in the '08 compressor? Should I get a 3rd party opinion?
Heat Pump thermostat question? I just bought a house that has a heat pump rheem ac/furnace. It is a single unit. My dilema is that the existing thermostat was missing and the wires are not marked. I just bought a honeywell rth7400 thermostat but the diagrams are no good as the wires were never labeled. Can anyone help as to what color wires should go where? I just found the old thermostat. On it the labels are as follows: E, Y, X1, X4, X2 G, W2, X3
Rheem A/C problem? When I flip the breaker to ON, the ac comes on, but the fan is at a less than normal RPM. after about a minute, the fan completely shuts off, while the pump continues to run. The pump gets louder and louder, and finally shuts off about a minute after the fans shuts off. Not only that, but the small coper tubing coming out of the black compressor is EXTREMELY hot. When water touches it, it evaporates in an instant. please help. I live in Tucson, and even night time is hot here. Its 100 degrees right now, and its 9pm.
Got a quote for a 2.5ton rheem 13 seer and replace furnace coil including labor for $4,800, reasonable or high I need to replace the outside AC unit and the inside furnace is alright but the coil will need replacing to get it up to the 13 seer efficiency. I received a quote of $4,800 for all connections including thermostat, check and clear condensate line, new refrigerant lineset, and a new pad for the outdoor unit. Is this way too high or is it reasonable? I need to replace the outside AC unit and the inside furnace is alright but the coil will need replacing to get it up to the 13 seer efficiency. I received a quote of $4,800 for all connections including thermostat, check and clear condensate line, new refrigerant lineset, and a new pad for the outdoor unit. Is this way too high or is it reasonable? I live in Richmond, Virginia. The guy yesterday said the lines are contaminated due to the unit being unlevel, he hooked up the guages and one of the needles continued to wobble and he stated that is the indicator that its contaminated.
Central AC Line-set sizing? House built in 1983 (Miami, FL.) with a Rheem 10 SEER (R22) 3.5 ton split system. Line-set used was 1/4" and 3/4" which I believe is too small from what I can determine, (might have been the norm back in 83?) Length of lines from condensor to air handler is about 35 feet. I want to replace system with a Rheem 13 SEER (R22) 3.5 ton but I believe it should be used with a 3/8" and 7/8" line-set. Changing the line-set will be a major pain in the (u know what!) So, how much will the current line-set hurt the performance / efficiency of a new system?
AC blower will not stop running.......? Changed the t-stat,fan relay and it still continually runs. I just ohmed out the heater relays(3) where the flame is on during the winter months and the results were this. .2,.2, and11.1.Could it be that this one relay is the cause. The condensing unit is cycling on & off at desired temp. Thats ok. But it seems the blower is running at a slower speed also;as if the unit is calling for heat.I'm still at my witts end . Can someone please help. I don't have the funds right now to call a tech. The model # is RCBA3765GG17 Rheem
breaker, heat strip? hello,im replacing a packaged ac unit with a rheem rsnja24jk000 packaged unit it comes with a 5kw or 10kw heat strip the old unit runs with a #10w 240v 30amp breaker without a heat strip, will that run the new unit with the heat strip in heat mode? 76db noise level is that good, bad or avg. thanks in advance.
How do I determine which HVAC replacement compressor I need? I have an older Rheem 10 SEER ac unit. I've replaced both capacitors (run only, there are no "optional" start capacitors) and the contactor. The fan comes on fine. I've done every test I could find to do for a compressor ( on several internet sites) and it passes every test fine. I think the compressor is still bad only because I don't see it move or hear it run. Can I just unhook one of the big fan's wires so I can listen for the compressor running? I can't find any data plates at all to figure out which replacement compressor to get if needed; only the schematic on the inside cover. "Copeland" is on the plastic cover on the compresor but I can't find any other data. What looks like the compressor's data plate is rusted away. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike
Could 6 Central AC Compressors Be Bad? Very noisy new air conditioner 2 different brands (1st Rheem and then Trane xl16i)5 compressors and its still very noisy. All in the first year of a installation reinstall. When it starts up you can hear inside the house, a loud boom followed by a dc3 sound emminating from the outside then in calms down a bit. It wakes me on the opposite side of the house everytime it starts up. The last compressor was installed and was smooth and quiet until (He started up the system it was fine then he charged the system to its full pressure) I raised the thermostat to the normal setting of 78 we left the house for about 3 hours. The first time it went on when we got home "Boom". What in the world can be the problem? The condensing unit is outside the air handler is in the attic. Both new. No problem w/ air handler. All Year Heating & Cooling is the BEST. They won't give up they will solve this problem!!!!!!!! Update they are coming to replace the copper lines which are resonating in the attic. Maybe this is an answer? If still noisy they will replace the entire unit. What personal resposibility they have! Update: 3 am I heard an airplane flying by woke me. But it never went past the house? Got up went to dining room wall and the noise got louder. Turned off the AC and noise dissapeared. Went back to bed. Can it really be that all of these compressors are bad?YES!!! They replaced the copper lines and it got worse. The very next day they are putting in another new outside unit. What a company. UPDATE The new outside unit was replaced the following day as promissed. Its the first compressor in 6 changes that is normal and quiet while running. On start up there is still a boom followed by pulsating in the lines in the attic for a short period of time then it is quieter. Outside no noise. ALL RESPONSES ARE WELCOME. Boom is not heard outside. But it is the outside unit which crates the BOOM.The unit is very quiet listen to outside. what do you mean boom? is it a heatpump system? are they using txv for metering? need to know what kind of a/h and seer are they using hard start relay?r-22 or r-410? if i heard it id be able to help you trying to go buy your info 4 hours ago ------------------------------------------------- No heat pump 16 seer trane xl16i 4 ton. Boom is the sound heard INSIDE the house when the unit turns on. Its like a small explosion in a confined space. Reminds me of an old oil burner starting up in my folks basement.
Air Conditioner Confusion? The AC in the house is blowing but doesnt feel cold. Outside the Rheem unit thing fan is not running. Is there a connection? Oh and also the Honeywell thermostat reads "-AC" DO you know what might be going on? thank you very much!
Central Air: Replace or Tune-up? Whole House Fan? The last 3 years I've been dealing with $400-500 PG&E bills in the summertime, it gets 100+ and stays there for weeks at a time in my sunny Cal. town. I am installing dual pane argon filled windows ($ 6,000) next month, which I'm told will help a lot, but I'm torn on what to do with the AC system. It's a Sears compressor and Rheem furnace from 1987, everything works fine and I've been quoted $5,000 to replace everything. I'm thinking a tune up might be the answer, but I'm not sure what all that entails. Hopefully I could do some of the work myself, if it's worth it. I've also heard good things about whole house fans, any comments from people with them?
Help with digital thermostat wiring? Hi. I just purchased a "98% universal" Ritetemp digital thermostat, to replace my mercury Rheem thermostat, but the wire hookups don't seem completely compatible. I read all of the other Yahoo Answers about this, and I surfed the web for help, but nothing seems to address this particular issue. I think all of the wires translate logically to the Ritetemp except there's no port for an X, which exists on my Rheem. The wire is either gray or beige...too hard to tell, but there's no logical place to put it in the digi model. There's also an E on my Rheem, without an E on the new thermostat, but the E jumps to W, so I believe I'm ok with that issue. FYI: I have electric heat and AC with an auxiliary back-up. I'm assuming the X has to do with aux, but what to do? Any HVAC pros out there who can guide me? Thanks, in advance.
