What should I use to seal the gap between my wall and air conditioner? I have a wall air conditioner, but the hole in the wall is a bit bigger than the air conditioner unit and there is a significant gap between the edges of the unit and the wall. The air conditioner came with foam to fill the gap which it does fine, but I live next to a highway and the foam does not block the noise very well. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Should I replace or repair in-wall air conditioner? Our rental property has an old GE Air Conditioner mounted in the wall. It does not work. We have a technical sheet with all part information on it for the AC. Is it cheaper to replace the entire unit, or get it repaired?
Wall air conditioner vs window? We can't put air conditioners in our windows, building rules, written in the lease, etc. Do we have to buy an air conditioner that is specifically made for the wall sleeve or can we use the window air conditioner that we already have and just put it in the wall? The air conditioner will not stick out the end of it, but will be completely enclosed within the sleeve. thanks.
Is a through-the-wall air conditioner a standard size? I have two old through-the-wall air conditioners in my house which I "inherited" from the previous owner. They seem to be from the late 1970s or 1980s. I am hoping to replace them at some point, but am unsure about their size. I measured the wall opening and it is 20" wide and 14" high. But it seems like all the through-the-wall units I look at online are 24" wide and 14.5" high. Did they change the standard size at some point or do I just have odd-sized units?
Why does my Wall Air Conditioner Keep Kicking off and then back on? Can I stop this? I live in a small apartment and I have a small wall mounted air Conditioner, I turn it on, it seems to get cold and blow cold air for a while, but then it just shuts off and doesn't come on for a long time, but it isn't very cold in the room.. How can I make it stay on constantly? The Brand name is General Electric, I looked, but I can't find the Model number.. I want it to stay on Constantly.. Can I tweak the Thermostat? or something like that? maybe move it away from the apparatus? I jut don't know...
Is it possible that a very old wall air conditioner could have asbestos inside it? I live in an apartment that came with a very old air conditioner. When I opened the front panel I discovered that there is a blackish gray brittle material used as installation around the inside edge. I don't know how old it is, but it reminds me of asbestos. I don't know what asbestos looks like exactly, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this is what it is or if it is just some other harmless material. I don't trust the apartment manager to have followed the proper safety regulations and removed asbestos from the property. Give me a shout if you know the answer.
How do I clean my wall mounted air conditioner? I live in Japan, and my air conditioner hasn't been heating very well recently. Sometimes it shuts off by itself, but today, it just hasn't been giving warm air. I have a feeling that the filter needs to be replaced. It's a rather standard wall mounted air conditioner made by Mitsubishi that is common in Japanese apartments. Any ideas?
What do you need for a thru the wall air conditioner? Do I have to buy a sleeve? Are all sleeves a standard size? If the A/C breaks can I just slide it out and a new one in? Is 220 better than 110? I don't have 220. Who makes the best one? Do they change sizes year to year?
Wall air conditioner +insulation? I just moved into an older not so kept up apartment. It looks like the air conditioner that is in the wall is a more efficient model that replaced an older larger model. The problem is that I can see light from around the top and one side of the unit, meaning they didn't put any insulation in there when they put the small unit in. What can I do that's cheap and efficient to fill in the gaps? Thanks!
Mold is growing on the wall under my window air conditioner. Why and what should I do? We usually run the window air conditioner only at night. After we were gone for an especially humid weekend (and thus obviously not using the air conditioner), we came home and noticed that the inside wall underneath the air conditioner is bubbling out and growing orangish-colored mold. I don't know if it was there before the weekend or not. I'm wondering if the air conditioner could be causing the mold or if it's another problem with the window or maybe even the crawl space in our basement that's kind of below that spot. What should I do?
Does a "wall unit" air conditioner have to be installed as a window unit? I've been looking for a room sized air conditioner, but do not want a window unit. Home Depot's website has wall units, but it doesn't explain how they are installed. The room in question is on the third level of the house, with dormer windows, and the main a/c unit just doesn't keep it cool enough. Does anyone know something about these units?
Most quiet wall Air conditioner? I have about 500sf to cool. I have a 14k BTU AC by fridigidaire, but when I turn it on, it seems too loud and anyone in the room has to scream. Its new too. Does anyone know of a WALL AC that is ULTRA QUIET and that can cool off 500sf easily? I got a 14k BTU but it may be too strong. I prefer low amps, 220v and wall unit. Thanks
What do i need to do to put a small window air conditioner in a wall slot? I have a in the wall slot for my A/C. The a/c in the slot is 24 inches wide, 20inches deep & 14.5 inches high..l i want to buy a window a/c for this slot but most window air conditioners are not that wide or deep. What can i buy or make to put the (small) window air conditioner in the wall slot. Ive seen the foam strips but they were kind of small.
LG Wall Air Conditioner not cooling as much? I just moved into a small efficiency with a wall unit A/C by LG. I'm not sure of the model number. The A/C works ok, but I don't think it cools as it should. I cleaned out the filter today and still it takes a very long time to cool the room. The display shows 60 degrees F as the lowest temp, but it doesn't feel like it gets that cold. The unit is barely a year old according to the owner of the place and it should work fine. But I'm not quite sure. Is there anything else I can do to make it cool faster and also colder without having to convice the owner to buy a new one? Thank you
Can I buy window air conditioner and put it in the wall (Wall is vented -rear)?? Hi, I just moved into the house w/ no air conditioner in it. But I noticed previous renter made hole into the wall and put sleeve in it so that people can put in air conditioner in there. There is also opening(vent/ holes) toward the back. My question is,.... can i buy air conditioner for window and install it in the wall? Air conditioner for windows are a lot cheaper than one specifically made for wall... That is why I am asking about this. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done when I buy this air conditioner? Thank you!!
Is a wall or a portable air conditioner better? When deciding to get a wall or a portable air conditioner, which one cools a room better if the portable aspect is not required? My room is about 350 sq ft but has 18 ft sloping ceiling. Your recommendations?
wall Air Conditioner problem. Smells bad on fan setting. Please help? I have a frigidaire 2.1v 12,000 BTU thru-the-wall a/c. The smell is not there on the cool setting, but when the fan setting kicks in it smells very bad, like a chemical smell. A repairman came and said it's not freon, it must be mold & mildew and took it for cleaning. He brought it back and it still has the bad smell. The smell is like a chemical or paint smell, something weird. What should I do please help i mean 220 volt
How can I convert an air-conditioner power socket (on wall, horizontal prongs) to a normal power socket? The socket on the wall is three prong, two horizontal prong-inputs and one ground-prong input. Note that this is an Air Conditioner outlet and not a 20 AMP outlet, which is similar. I was to find some way to adapt it for regular 15AMP usage. Because both wires are 'hot' on the air conditioner outlet, this may not be possible. I am assuming that the outlet is 240 volts, though I see terms like 250/208 volts and the like. Also, the casing for the outlets is as such: two regular 15 AMP outlets, and next to them, where there would be usually two more 15 AMP outlets, there is just the one Air Conditioner outlet, which would make sense. Any help would be appreciated. I suspect I'll just have to leave the outlet alone, which seems a waste of an outlet. (UPDATE: Just to be clear, I'm looking for a plug-in adapter or device to solve this, /not/ a wiring solution; looking for device to transform the power and socket shape into a normal socket shape. Thanks!) The socket on the wall is three prong, two horizontal prong-inputs and one ground-prong input. Note that this is an Air Conditioner outlet and not a 20 AMP outlet, which is similar. wall air conditioner leaking? my husband noticed yellow marks on the wall below the ac and i told him it's nothing but last night we actually saw water dripping and caused the floorboard to have a gap from the wall. more brownish yellowish marks on the wall. how likely is it to cause mold? landlord told us they have more pressing issues to fix meaning our ac leak is not a priority so i am curious on how it will cause mildew and mold. thank you
Through the wall heating and air conditioner? Need to heat and cool a 600 sq' space with ten foot ceilings, insulated walls and attic space, and want to use a through the wall heating and a/c unit like you find in motels, but not as noisy as those. Lots on the market, need approx 18K BTU heating and maybe 18-20 BTU cooling. Can be run to a 230v outlet. Anyone have experience with these types of units and good/bad of various models, and where to locate them on net?
Replacing a thru-wall air conditioner with a smaller one? I have two thru-the-wall Air conditioners that look pretty old and have died over the past few years. We have been debating on replacing them. I think my wife took the dimensions to Sears and it was $500 for a new a/c and install. Not sure??? One opening is 27 1/8 inches x 16 3/4 inches. The opening is 26 inches x 18 3/4 inces. My question is do I need to find the exact air conditioner size to replace these, or can I go a bit smaller? If so, how much smaller? The current a/c dimensions are a bit smaller obviously to fit the opening. I would love to be able to install myself to save some $$$. I assume it is just a matter of disconnecting the power and sliding out the current A/C. Then, sliding the new A/C unit in and connectint the power wires??? Much else to it than that? You said to "fill in the gaps" if I put in a smaller A/C unit. Assuming there was an extra inch or two on the top or sides, what do I use to fill in the gaps? This would be between the actual A/C unit and the chassis! -I have the old a/c in the wall. -I want to keep the old chassis'. -I will put in a smaller A/C unit -what do I use to fill in the extra space/gaps between the new a/c AND the inside walls of the chassis? -I do not want to reframe the hole. I want to use the existing chassis!!!
How can I manage with old wall air conditioner in new apartment? (This is important, so please, serious answers only - not one-liners for points.) I'm in NJ and my "new" apartment has an old wall air conditioner. I do mean OLD. The screen inside has holes so every now and again, I'll have leaves on my carpet because there's nothing the catch them. Besides, that (of course) my electric bill is through the roof because it has no modern features at all. The thermostat rotary dial is a joke and there's no timer. Worst of all, in the winter, I had to Saran Wrap it to keep cold air out, and now when I come home it's scorching hot since hot air comes right through the old thing. The a/c I had previously (but sold because I thought I wouldn't need it here) at least had the option to recirculate INDOOR air and close the outside vents. Now THAT'S efficient. Without buying another a/c and blocking a whole window, is there anyway to persuade them to relieve me of this piece of crap? Thank you for your help on this.
In-wall air conditioner unit? What happens if I run this unit inside my room? without installing it in a window? would I get poisoning of some kind? Does the half of the unit have to be hanging outside a window?
